Arsenal Chairman wants to keep Adebayor

Peter Hill-wood is adamant that Adebayor will be staying at Arsenal. He (Hill-Wood) was quoted in the daily Telegraph as saying

“We want him to stay, definitely. Adebayor still has a long time (three years) left on his contract, and we have absolutely no intention of releasing him from that contract. “You want to keep your best players and Adebayor is one of those.”

So that’s that, or is it? “We want him to stay is not the same as he will be staying.” What the Chairman wants and the realities of the market is two totally different things. With Laporta surviving a vote of no confidence yesterday, expect him to continuing the pursuit of Adebayor.

Whether Ade stays or not will depend entirely on how much Barca is willing to pay, not Ade’s contract.

With that, I would like not to talk about the Adebayor thing any more, so until his situation has been resolved his name will no be mentioned in regards to transfer talk.

The manager has had a few thing to say about the trends in the transfer market, and would like to change a few things.

“If I had the power to change anything in football, it would be the transfer system which makes mercenaries of players. If they are bad ones they stay. If they are good, they think only of leaving.”

I must say I don’t totally agree with the last part of that quote. If we were winning trophies I am sure the good ones would stay, I know money has a big influence on the decisions these players make, but being seen as also rans does nothing to help the situation.

Meanwhile we have been linked with Klass-Jan Huntelaar, Ruben de la Red and the omnipresent Obafemi Martins none of whom I am impressed with, the papers must learn by now that Wenger signings are never on their radar.

While Hill-Wood thinks Hleb will leave, one player who has no intention of leaving is Justin Hoyte.

“There are rumours every day but I am contracted to Arsenal,” said Hoyte.

“The boss has said great things about me, has good plans for me and I need to show him what I am capable of.”

That’s the kind of attitude we would like to see from all our players the willingness to fight and work hard for a place. Don’t be surprised if Hoyte turns out to be next season’s Flamini, it is the same attitude Flamster brought with him last season.

Do you think Hoyte can be the surprise of the season?

I think this will be a big season for a number of talented players, who need to make a statement, as Flamini did.

Diaby & Djourou, in particular for me, have the ability to get in the team & stay there. Have they got the mental strength to go with their talent?

Sammy Nelson, was in a similar situation, to Hoyte, at the same age. He had a bit part for several seasons, until Bob McNab got injured & Sammy got a run of games, when he was around 23/24. He wasn’t that impressive to start with but in the end was a reliable player in what became a decent Arsenal side. Sammy ended up with over 300 appearances, so Hoyte is right to hang on in there, while he can.

It is hard to make an assessment of any player until they have had a good long run, in the team, to give the confidence that gives any player the armour to really show what they are capable of.

Keep on going with the blog. In general you write sensible stuff. It takes time to get much response, ask Yogi.

    Thanks for the encouragement Flint.

You’re right there is no way to know what a player can do until they get an extended run in the team, again Flamini is a prime (recent) example.
