How will summer affect the Arsenal?
The big question on everyone lips is, who is Arsene Wenger going to buy this summer. Behind all the speculation is how the summer will affect our team overall.
It is very important who comes into the side for the beginning of the next term. dealing well in the summer transfer market can pay huge dividends to the future of any team. As ever Arsene Wenger is renowned for finding gems in the market, and the press routinely plays the “guess hows coming this summer” game.
What makes this summer even more interesting is the Euro 2008 finals, African. It brings transfer dealings in stark relief, a blessing or a curse for many managers.
Arsene will buy early.
Last season, Manchester United finished their business within a couple weeks of the premiership end. This season Wenger promised to make signings within weeks. Promising something and delivering is different, but I think he really wants to get it over with a soon as possible
We will get a central defender
Again this comes from Wenger, he has publicly stated what everyone already that defence is our problem. The conondrum is who shall be replaced Gallas or Toure. I feel Toure will get the chop, he has been a shadow of himself since the African cup of Nations. He was even worse during that tournament.
The injury problem.
We are always proud when our team members play in big tournaments, but everyone is wary of injuries. This is especially troublesome for us in particular Robin van Persie. With his injury history I would not be troubled if Holland gets knocked out early in the championships.
There’s also Denilson and Gilberto in the Brazil squad who will play at least 4 games this summer. And African nations/world cup qualifying. There holds a possibility for us to buy a player only for him to get injured even before kicking a ball in our colours.
Working in our favour is Monsieur Domenech. He has had the foresight to exclude all but 1 of our French players, while it is disappointing not to see Clichy and Sagna in the squad it’s lessens the injury problem for us.
Players value can increase.
Wenger must make his “European” purchases early. Not doing so leaves the possiblilty of a player performing extremely well in the Euros hence bumping his value or worse alerting other teams to his potential. Take for example Royston Drenthe, a good tournament last summer and Madrid pays 14million for him.
Reflect and recharge
The most important thing is that players can get a chance to look at themselves and their performances of the last season, see where they can improve. What changes they can make to get over that hump. It is just that, a hump, we don’t have far to go. As long a we can keep the team together add a few reinforcements, then we will be ready to win trophies next season.
