Youth Double, Moyes Triple.

The only place to start is by congratulating the Youth team for winning their 2nd trophy this season. Although not the masterful display as they gave us last Friday they went on to beat Liverpool 2-1 in the second leg to win the FA youth cup.

The youth team lifts their second trophy this season.

We must be careful not to over hype these boys as there hardly a correlation between success at this level and success at a senior level. Nevertheless although we have had plaudits at the youth level never has the team been so dominant and it can only bode well for the future. If the 6+5 rule does come into fruition then at least we have a modicum of choice in our youth ranks, only 4 foreigners was in Arsenal’s squad last night and 3 in the first leg.

With the season over we are now in a state where rumour, conjecture, and hyperbole takes front stage, and Adebayor sought to avoid a repeat of last summer by affirming his commitment to Arsenal. The problem is he did state his commitment to Arsenal last summer, only to do the opposite in an interview 10 minutes later. I doubt however he’ll make the same blunder this time around, as it seems that him staying or leaving is much more in the hands of the club than the player himself.

One name that just doesn’t seem to go away is Brede Hangelland, even if he wants to stay at Fulham. I am not convinced that he is the answer, it’s just that he had an OK season and it’s an easy option because all we need is a tall CB that can head the ball … right. We know that when Wenger decides to buy it will not be anyone on the radar, like Sagna, Eduardo, etc we just have to wait and see. Even Nasri had a number allocated for him 6 weeks before his purchase was confirmed.

On the topic of transfers and managers, how is it that Moyes can win manager of the year again? seriously he is like the boy who cried wolf. The media just loves the guy, continually going on about how little he has had to spend and how well he has done given his resources. The fact is Moyes has spent much more than he would like us to believe. In the last 4 years he has spent a net total of £23.9m that’s more than you know who. Do you hear Hodgson constantly bleating about how little he has had to spend. Seriously has Moyes really done a better job than Zola? While you’re pondering that question think of this —

Everyone is raving about Hiddink and how good a job he has done with Chelsea, well when he took over Chelsea was 4th 7 points behind Man-U they finished 3rd 7 points behind Man-U and got to the Champions league semi finals. While Grant took them form 6th to 2nd missing the League by 2 points and losing on penalties in the Champions league Finals. Yet the perceived wisdom is that anyone could do what Grant did while no-one else could manage what Hiddink managed.

My point — don’t believe the hype!
